OKRs#
We operate OKRs at amazee.io, or “objectives and key results” . New joiners won't be partaking in them during their onboarding, so for your first 3 months, but here’s a brief overview of what OKRs are, and why we do them.
What are OKRs:#
OKRs are an effective way to measure progress and set goals. We have company level OKRs based on what we want to achieve each year as amazee.io. These are set at the beginning of the year by the Leadership Team. We also set company quarterly OKRs to provide a more digestible road map to our annual OKRs.
Each workstream will then set their own quarterly OKRs in a team meeting. These will be designed in such a way that means that the workstream is directly contributing to the wider company OKRs.
How OKRs Work:#
Objectives: These are high-level, qualitative goals that set a clear direction. Objectives are meant to be ambitious and inspiring.
Key Results: These are specific, measurable outcomes that indicate progress toward achieving the objective. Each objective typically has 3 key results. If the key results are completed, the objective is considered achieved.
For example:
Let's say amazee.io set a company wide OKR for the year of improving customer satisfaction ratings and feedback scores by 15%.
Each workstream will then design their own OKRs, based on how they can help reach this overall goal within their own area of expertise and focus. As an example, for the Platform workstream this could look like the following:
Objective: Enhance the reliability and performance of our web hosting platform.
Key Results:
- Achieve 99.99% uptime for all hosting services by the end of Q3.
- Increase customer satisfaction score related to reliability from to 9.5 out of 10.
- Successfully migrate 95% of customers to the new high-performance server infrastructure.
In this example:
The objective is focused on making the hosting platform more reliable and faster, which is critical for customer satisfaction and retention.
The key results are measurable outcomes that track specific improvements in uptime, performance, customer feedback, and infrastructure upgrades.
By setting this OKR, the hosting service team is focused on concrete goals that will directly impact the quality and reliability of the product, leading to better customer satisfaction, and supporting the wider company goal.
